Do it ASAP. Because as soon as you cancel the insurance on that car, the insurance company notifies DMV. Then, they suspend your registration, if they don%26#039;t have the plates or proof of insurance in a certain amount of time, then your license will be suspended.
Many insurance companies will not take a car off your policy unless they have a copy of the returned plates receipt.
